SCDAI Baby Shower
In the United States there are over 100,000 people living with Sickle Cell Disease. In the state of Illinois there are approximately 120,000 births per year; of those births over 250 babies are born with Sickle Cell Disease. In knowing the journey these families may experience, SCDAI created a celebration of those lives hosting its first Baby Shower in 2006. The baby showers focus is to educate the families about SCT/SCD in a fun non-stressful environment. The families are able to see they are not alone; there are others in the same situation. This event allows parents/guardians to express their fears and concerns associated with caring for a child with SCD. SCDAIs’ Baby Shower events are provided quarterly catering to parents of children with SCD from 0-12 months of age.
